Let’s face it, regardless of age or experience level, public speaking is an area where we are ALL lifetime students! Whether working with professional clients or as an adjunct professor, Anne Scarlett strives to apply the latest in coaching and teaching techniques - all in the spirit of maximizing the potential of each and every ’student’! See what students from Columbia College’s various Oral Communications classes had to say about their learning experience with Anne: After taking this class, I can honestly say that I no longer fear public speaking. I learned a lot of awesome techniques that I know will help me in the future for my career. Anne is a very likable and inviting person which is fitting for a public speaking class. The criticism given was very constructive and I have retained almost everything. Her methods of peer evaluation were great as well. Anne does a good job in teaching us to relax. She also gives great tips to make us stronger in areas where we are weak. I loved the activities and exercises we did in class. They were very helpful not just for presentations, but for life itself. Anne is so full of energy. She is a wonderful teacher and a great public speaker too! Honestly, Anne's style of teaching is among the best I've had here at Columbia. I love how she is completely HONEST when critiquing us. They were blunt sometimes, but solid and necessary. She shows she cares about making us learn, and that makes me respect her even more. She was easy to approach, and her enthusiasm and personality made it so that there was never a dull moment. She was real and FUN! Anne is very knowledgeable and approachable; she truly cares about the students. I thought this class would be a nightmare - I hate public speaking. Anne did a great job at not making it scary....I love that she never discouraged us from speaking on the topics we cared about the most. She always had both positive and constructive things to share. Anne's critiques were always honest. Not overly critical, but direct. Also, our class became very personally connected, which made our crits and recommendations of one another even more respected and productive. Ms. Scarlett conveyed ideas well to the class. She was a great teacher (one of the best I've ever had!), and she offered both constructive criticism as well as a lot of encouragement. She was also well organized. Ms. Scarlett really cares about our success. She is a great speaker and provides a good example for the class to strive toward. Ms. Scarlett got our class to interact with each other so that we were not afraid to give critiques or to be critiqued. None of us would have been as friendly and open if it wasn't for her interactive teaching methods. Ms. Scarlett was helpful, constructive, friendly, and an overall great teacher! Ms. Scarlett was a clear cut, excellent teacher. She obviously knows her field inside and out. Very personable, easy to approach, excited about the subject, and she thinks ahead on-the-spot. I like that the curriculum was more rigorous. This was a great class and I'm glad I took it! Anne related well to our class. She was very knowledgeable and always offered help when we needed it. I enjoyed how Anne made us feel comfortable when giving speeches; she offered a LOT of constructive criticism after each one. This helped us to improve our public speaking ability without feeling worried about harsh criticism. Ms. Scarlett was probably one of the best overall instructors I've ever had. Ms. Scarlett relates coursework to professional world and students' future careers, while letting students grow and excel in an open and academic environment. Anne was very good at making our class comfortable for everyone when they were speaking. I also think that as the course progressed, each speech built upon the previous speeches to properly prepared us. |
